A Little About Myself

2019-09-15 Word Count: 218 Reading Time: 2m

My name is The Long Letter (not really), my wife is the most gentle soul I know, and I'm a father to four extremly creative sons.

I work in fintech as a DevOps Engineer. My skillset includes OSS, Linux/Unix, software development (Python, Go, and web development), Kubernetes, and automating CI/CD infrastructure.

On my good days I suffer from extreme imposter syndrome and rue the day when this will be discovered by my friends and coworkers.

The protestant wing of Christianity is where I call home. A recovering fundamentalist and proponent of those marginalized and victimized by the church. I'm always attempting a faithful criticism of that which I am a part.

I love and hate old houses. We currently reside in a home that is over 100 years old. We are the third owners. The previous owners having lived in it for 75 years.

To use Martin Gardner's phrase, I am a philosophical scrivener. Same for theology. My influences are all over the board and likely contradictory. A few of those influencers who have influenced those who have influenced me are:

  • Immanuel Levinas
  • Hilary Putnam
  • Martin Buber
  • Soren Kierkegaard
  • Friedrich Schleiermacher
  • C.S. Lewis
  • Keith Ward
  • Nicholas Rescher
  • Dale Allison

Philosophically, if a Pragmatist and an Idealist had a baby, I would be the ok with that.
